Edinburgh-based Alan Tweedie has worked with arts practitioners from many
East, Central and West European countries and in the south Asian sub-continent. His career has been in community development,
youth work, the arts, education and politics, leading to an
essentially holistic research and development approach in
his cultural activity.
Alan is an artistic associate both at Mumbai Festival and Bradford Mela. He is an associate with VIP Entertainments handling live act management. He leads the event management team for the World Sufi Festival in Glasgow. Alan is developing collaborative projects between Bangladesh and UK and between India and Europe. These include the Poush Mela in Dhaka, projects for UK melas and an Indian festival. Alan has carried out a five-year evaluation of an innovative children's arts initiative in Fatima Mansions, Dublin. In Dun Laoghaire he is developing a mela for the Festival of World Cultures.
He is a founder member of the European Mela Network (EMN), of which Melange Network is a member. From November 2006 to May 2007 Alan is leading the Melange team working on project management for EMN. In that capacity he is leading the implementation of a Cultural Leadership Programme for mela organisers funded by Arts Council of England. Currently he is part of the team implementing a Melange Network/Kala Phool development programme for melas in South East England funded by the Arts Council in the South East.
