Kimho Ip is equally at home working with young Chinese musicians in Glasgow, with children from diverse cultures in an Edinburgh school, with Shanghai New Ensemble or with his Intercultural Music and Arts project, iMAP.
A composer, musical director, cellist and Yang Qin player Kimho explores interculturalism in music. His 1997 composition Mountains and Hills, contrasting different temperaments in Chinese and Western instruments, was subsequently performed in Bochum and Essen (Germany) by his mixed Chinese-western ensemble, Commusico. Among others, the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, the Emperor String Quartet, the Hong Kong Bach Choir and the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra have performed his work.
Currently Kim is working from his Edinburgh, Scotland base with In2National on a range of intercultural projects. He coordinated a contribution to the World Sufi Festival in Glasgow, Sufi Sessions. In late 2006 he brought a new music approach in theatre to an innovative part of the newly established Poush Mela in Dhaka, Bangladesh. In early 2007, Kimho composed a new musical score for the 30s Chinese silent movie, Goddess.
